The pointing was found to be in a very poor state with a combination of inappropriate cement pointing and general decay. This was causing damp to track through the wall. The lintels above the windows were badly fitted concrete. I removed the windows, replaced the lintels with oak, rebuilt the stone reveals and repointed with lime mortar.
